The sign said Plymouth bardrocks but i think someone messed up

I'd find a way to sneak them inside I suppose. If there was a problem. The article I read said they don't live long and are prone to tumors because of the large amount of egg production that makes me supper sad. Such a sweet bird.

High Production egg layers/hybrids are more susceptible to reproductive diseases, one reason I avoid them, & only go for Heritage type breeds.

Well I think that is right. I'm a little worried now. I heard that these are not cold hardy, I live in idaho . What do you guys know??

They are usually a fairly large combed breed so that might be a concern with frost bite. Beyond that I don’t really know.

I'll keep a close eye on that. My rir had a little frostbite this year. I need to insulate the coop shed better. Thank you for mentioning this. Now I'll be more prepared.

Hatchery Barred Rocks are Production type, not entirely Heritage despite being the same breed. The difference is the Hatchery Barred Rocks are bred to be prolific layers, & not to standard/often have sloppy barring, & body type.

Heritage Plymouth Barred Rocks are Bred to standard, are fancy, clean crisp barring, & lay less then the hatchery type.

I dunno. It got very very cold this year. And bitter and not as dry as usual. It was a weird winter.

We had a weird winter too. All I do is bed the birds down, & have a deep pack build up for natural heat. All the winter build up gets thrown in the garden as fertilizer.
