I hate that it freezes and I can't clean it till it thaws. We had a weird winter too. All I do is bed the birds down, & have a deep pack build up for natural heat. All the winter build up gets thrown in the garden as fertilizer.
I swear this year I didn't do it right and it might have caused some problems my girls had this March. But if it works it works.I hate that it freezes and I can't clean it till it thaws.
We have 3 large coops. 1 of which is larger then the rest. It's also a large area big enough for 30 chickens and I only keep 6.
We deal with it every winter. Very rarely they're able to get a winter cleaning due to the manure being frozen.I hate that it freezes and I can't clean it till it thaws.

I think I have 57-58 chickens now, I had more before knocking the flocks
I'm going to build a poop box under there roost and put sand in it. Then clean it daily like a litter box.We deal with it every winter. Very rarely they're able to get a winter cleaning due to the manure being frozen.
No. I have an astrolorp and a sapphire olive egger and a mystery colored egg layer chick. I had to rehome a rooster that I had with my first set so I went and got the olive egger and mystery chick. Are the Black Sex-links the only ones you have right now?
That's not gonna go much with high traffic on the floor.I'm going to build a poop box under there roost and put sand in it. Then clean it daily like a litter box.
