The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

Pics
We got this one about 2 months ago. She's not from our original group from June 2012. We decided to add two more this spring and she is one of them along with a wellsummer. We can't wait for eggs though. The ones I got in June 2012 were about 8 - 10 weeks of age when we got them. They all laid eggs by the fall and kept on laying through the winter, so you should get eggs by this fall I would think. It's very exciting to get those first eggs!
Thanks for the info. I don't think we will get eggs all winter tho, I'm not going to give them artificial light and we don't have that S Texas sun in Dec/Jan. Yes first eggs will be exciting around here.

This SLW is 14 weeks old. Is everyone fairly certain that she is a she? She has started making funny clucks, compared to my other (different breeds) chickens, and I read that sometimes they are hard to tell for a while. Thanks!

I

I say pullet. No dark black around neck area.

She looks awfully mature for 14 weeks. Mine is 14 weeks as well and doesn't have nearly that much growth in her wattles or comb or the red color. Maybe you'll get eggs way sooner than me.

Hello everyone!
I am new-ish to chickens. I have only had my Dominique ladies for just about a year. We wanted to get two more ladies to keep them company. So, we purchased two little SLWs about10-11 weeks ago. I am growing more and more concerned about whether or not we got them two more "ladies"...As the weeks go on I have been saying to my husband, "One of these things does not look like the other!" The wattles and comb growth are exactly the same on both of the little SLWs, but one has virtually no lacing, while the other is growing more and more white by the day..Is one a cockerel and the other a pullet or do SLWs have a wide variety of lacing depending?

Sorry if the pictures are not the best. I try not to bother them too much as the temps have been in the high 90s lately, and I hate to upset them in the heat. I took what pics I could of them in the sectioned off part of the run we have them in and while they ran about the yard.

Stubbs on the left and Skaggs on the right.

From the back.

Stubbs (taken about a week ago)

Skaggs

Both of them on the move, trying their best to stay away from the big lady birds.

Stubbs checking out the agave and coming to the conclusion they are in fact not yummy.

And finally a Stubbs posing pretty!

Again, I apologize for the amount and quality of the photos! A lot of them were taken at dusk. >< I just wanted to make sure there were enough to get a clear view of them. (Plus, I just think they are the cutest, nicest little birds around! They are a lot friendlier than I remember my Doms being at this age. They will both come up and cuddle on my lap. If I am not outside when it is time to go to bed for the night, instead of going back to the coop they wait at the patio door until I carry them back 'home" So adorkable!! ^^)

You have two pullets don't worry. Sometimes markings are different as chickens mature. I am guessing your lighter female will have better lacing but you can't be certain until 6-8 months of age.

Here's my s/he .... yeah, not sure if Lady Sybil is really a lady or not. My flash washed out the color but her comb and wattles are quite dark pink/red.

Also, while I think she is beautiful (around 5 weeks old), I'm sad she has "hatchery coloring" rather than standard lacing. :(

Thanks everyone for the input on my pullet. I was pretty sure, but everyone's input is always helpful. I love this site!
