The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

You have two pullets don't worry. Sometimes markings are different as chickens mature. I am guessing your lighter female will have better lacing but you can't be certain until 6-8 months of age.

Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my silly question. ^^

Here's my s/he .... yeah, not sure if Lady Sybil is really a lady or not. My flash washed out the color but her comb and wattles are quite dark pink/red.

Also, while I think she is beautiful (around 5 weeks old), I'm sad she has "hatchery coloring" rather than standard lacing. :(

He or she is beautiful! I love her coloring!

My hatchery SLW's are mostly black though one seems to be getting some decent lacing

I will say pullet due to lack of saddle feathers. Her comb is a bit larger but it is not the bright red I see in cockerels. She is also completely feathered out which is a key feature in females. Many time hatchery wyandotte mature a little faster than heritage wyandotte do. I would still keep an eye on her and look for saddle feathers but I'm pretty confident it is a pullet.
Here are some pictures of young cockerels.

Ok. So I watched this video about feather sexing chicks at a day (or 2) old.
. Then I wrote to McMurray's Hatchery and asked them what breeds they used feather sexing on. This is the response I got from them.

Dear Becky

The following breeds may be feather sexed:

Araucana
Buff Orpington
Rhode Island
Black Giant
Dark Cornish
Silver Laced Wyandotte
White Rock,
Buff Minorca
Turkens
Black Minorca
Single Comb Leghorn
Black Australorp
New Hampshire
Pearl Whites

Sincerely,
Murray McMurray Hatchery

So, watch the video and see how it is done. They show some great photos that you can learn from! Hope this helps us all!

Thank you in advance for any help! Last year I started 2 SLW pullets. They were the only 100% correct sexing that I got. I lost one at Christmas. Out of 14 pullets that I started with, I have 4 left. So, this year when I ordered new pullets, I ordered one SLW. This year I ordered from My Pet Chicken.
