The situation that just won't go away...

This X2 - I have worked in customer service for many years. In the future, I would say, "I'm afraid its against company policy to do (whatever), but I can offer your wife a complimentary (manicure, haircut, $10 off, whatever). How does that sound?" Or something like that. Don't worry about this incident, every once in a while you get this kind of incident, especially with husbands. The wives will act like they are not upset with you, complain to the hubby and then you get an enraged phone call. I have run into that myself tons of times.
I think the OP needs to find out what she can say OR give for complimentary services, that could get her fired if she were to just willy nilly offer stuff up.
Also we need to remember that most stylists rent their space or chair in the salon they are in.

I think I will offer this advice...
IF a new client is coming in, the receptionist OR stylist, perhaps suggest that as a training tool for stylists OR the other receptionists.... Or as a selling tip to ask if the appointment is for a special occasion such as a birthday, prom, wedding...
It might help make them as important as the regular or the bride.
