The sleeping chick pics thread!

It's so FRUFFY! (My playful way of saying Fluffy)

I had a new-hatch yesterday fall asleep while tucked into my shirt. Obviously, I don't think getting a pic of that would be allowed here. The others were outside because I had a buyer stopping by. And I knew he wanted lots of Easter Eggers, which is what the new hatch was. I wanted to take him outside too, but wanted to keep him slightly warmer than the others (although it was a good 73 degrees outside, despite last week's SNOW STORM that crippled the city...)

So I put him there until the people showed up, and he fell right to sleep.

I'm so glad to see this thread. I was just commenting to my friends the other day that my chicks look like they're dead when they're sleeping. I keep having to check that their little bodies are moving as they breathe, because they just lay down flat wherever they are. This photo is not great - taken through the window of the brooder box - but you get the idea! :)

I admit, I created it for two purposes. First, is the enjoyment of the pics (duh, lol).

The second is educational. Photo threads seem to be one of the most popular, and always stick near the top. And many, MANY first-time chicken owners don't expect chicks to sleep like that. It freaks them out and puts them into panic mode, thinking something is wrong. But this thread is a very visual method of saying "it's totally normal."

But I love giggling at all the pics, as well as my own chicks when they do this. I love these photos!

This pic reminded me of something funny. A few years ago I raised my second batch of chicks, inside, because of the weather. One day I peeked into the brooder and found a chick lying on it's back, like yours in this pic, so I thought it was dead? I picked it up... and the poor thing screamed

Shame, I scared the crud out of it.

DH thought so too... But I got my own back when we put them under the heat lamp for the first time and the first chicks walked under the lamp and promptly keeled over. DH thought something was wrong with them! He felt a bit foolish when they got up after a few seconds and calmly walked off. Whenever he brings up my "dead chick" I remind him of that one. These little things love giving us frights, hey?
