THE SMOKERS QUIT CAMPAIGN - ADDITONAL NOTES

I know that it is hard, but try not to think about the cigs. The more that you think about them, then the harder that it is going to be on you.

I did start my butthead jar and put $4.00 in it. I will add another $4.00 tomorrow. I am determined to overcome this addiction and WIN!!! I know that all of you can do this as well.

I don't know why, but I just really feel confident about not smoking this time. Maybe it is because I have all of you as support/cheerleaders...lol Thanks to all of you for your support and encouraging words.

I quit back in October, for the second time. The first time I quit for 2 years back in 2000. The hunger thing is what gets me the most. I used to smoke instead of eating. I would drink soda and smoke cigarettes all day and then just eat dinner. To me, the cravings for a cigarette and the hunger pangs are one and the same. I've tried to figure why this is and the best that I can come up with is that the nicotine can elevate your blood sugar levels and when you quit you feel that as hunger. I've gained 10 pounds in the last ten weeks. I've pretty much licked the smoking habit, but have to constantly deal with eating properly.

Ok everyone i am back!

I hate to be the barer of bad news, but Cloves deliver more tar, nicotine and CO as the other major brands. Though they contain less, the papers they are wrapped in are less porous and lack the filter ventilation holes that dilute the nicotine somewhat in most other major brands. Unfortunately, people tend to gravitate towards Cloves thinking it's a healthier alternative, they are especially popular with young people in the arts. I have friends who started with them, they said that Cloves numb the sensation in your throat, making it easier to inhale.

So, what you are dealing with is a major chemical addiction, not just a mental addiction. I watched my father deal with quitting after his beloved father died from smoking when I was 11 (he was only 54). It was hard, but he did it. This was at a time when he was in the military, and people were allowed to smoke at work then, so he was exposed to temptation all the time. We have thanked him over and over for quitting, my kids get to have a relationship with their grandfather that I was never able to have. My friends in the arts are shocked that I never started, but I can tell you that it was watching my father quit that kept me from ever trying it. He gained so much respect from his kids when he gave us the gift of his health. Good luck to all struggling, trust me, it's worth it to everyone who loves you as much as it is to yourselves.

The first 2 to 3 days will be the hardest. You all can do this. I am praying for you.

When you want to smoke, get up and go outside and start raking the run where your chickens are. If you don't have chickens, go and comb your grass with the rake.

You can do this. You can.

I quit smoking when I was 15... I had been smoking for 2 years and since I am a very compulsive person I was up to 2 packs a day. Mind you this was in the 70's so cigs were alot cheaper! I noticed it was making me cough up spiders in the mornings and I could not sing as well. Nothing was going to keep me from singing so I bought a pack of Marlboro reds and put them on my stereo and every night I would flip them off before I went to bed. It worked... I haven't had a cigarette in in 29 years... though soemtimes I RRREEEAAAALLLY still want one. Obviously I have serious control issues! HAHAHAH!

I had some issues last night, but was in a lot of pain...lol.... really by evening my arms hurt a lot, so I cuddled up with a hot water bottle, and my pain killers and slept.

but another day is here and will try to keep going.

Good luck everybody, stay strong.
