THE SMOKERS QUIT CAMPAIGN - ADDITONAL NOTES

You guys can do it! My hubby smoked cigs since he was 15 - he only quit 2 years ago when he fell and broke his knee and developed arthritis and gets nasty flare-ups and said no to the cigs. He is 62 now, that means 40 plus years of being addicted.

Now he can't imagine smoking a cig and now- appreciates clean air and non stinking clothes and house.

I started smoking them dang things when I was 13 and quit when I was 18. Then snuck a few every once in a while when we would go out for drinks. It's been 20 yrs for me now. It's never too late.

I just wanted to jump in here with a word or two of encouragement. I've been smoke free for over a year now. Quitting stinks. There's nothing easy or enjoyable about it, but it does eventually get easier and you'll never regret it. I feel better now than I have in years.

Good luck everyone. May this be your year.

OK all you quitters. I have been down this road once on another group and found out a few things. There are times during this process when one REALLY needs to rant, rave and unload. Sometimes that unloading can be quite personal or inappropriate for this family friendly forum. So rather than clog BYC with this and expose private information that may come up in a public forum, I have set up a section of our farm forum that can be a PRIVATE moan, groan, and encouragement area. In this way what is said within the quitters group stays within a group that understands and supports.

Being able to openly talk with others going through the process makes it MUCH easier.

Just register at http://wildthingorganics.com/index.php with your BYC username so we know who you are and then drop a quick post in the Butt out section. I will add you to the private section from there.

We can do this together! Heres to a new smoke free you!

Thank you, kstaven. That was a very thoughtful thing to do!!! I had planned on just PMing all my nastiness to poor Mark, our cheermeister. LOL This might save him a serious headache or two!!!

And thank you to all you jumping on to share your stories of quitting. It helps me to think of all these people who are out there who really managed to quit!!! You guys did it and I know we can too!!!!

It's not as if you need another reason to quit, but here's a thought:

If I had all the money I spent on cigarettes when I smoked....... I'd be $110,000 richer today.

Frightening isn't it!!!! I lived in Alaska for about 4 1/2 years. At that time mine and my husband's cigarettes were over $7 a pack...that is for EACH pack. Here, I pay around $4 a pack. What can I possibly be thinking?????

Ok, all.. I'm in. I'll need tons of help though..

Been pretty much smoking for 30 years. Holy cow.. time flies. I used to never smoke in the house, because I do actually hate the smell. Kids grew, new hubby smokes, we got our own house, and smoke indoors. I still hate the smell of it. I walk into my house, and think its so gross. I go to visit family, and take my clean clothes out of the suitcase, and they smell horrid.
I doubt husband will quit, so I'll be stuck with the smell. Hopefully that will be more incentive for me..
I just hope my crankiness doesnt pass into nagging him.

I grew up in Ketchikan, and lived in Anchorage for a year before I moved to Seattle. When I started smoking it was 49 cents a pack. When I quit I was paying almost $6 a pack here in Washington. I just can't believe it!!!! I didn't pay $110,000 for my house.

Well, I never paid 49cents a pack, but I can so easily remember saying if they EVER hit $3 a pack I was sooooooooo quitting. When I realized I was forking over more than $7 a day without flinching I kinda gave up hope for awhile.
