THE SMOKERS QUIT CAMPAIGN - ADDITONAL NOTES

Quote:
EXCUSE ME ? Nicotine will HURT YOU ... JUNK gets in your lungs and can KILL YOU ... I was a smoker for 40 years and HAD to quit because of COPD ( Chronic Obstruction Pulimary Disease ) ...... Dr. put me on the CHANTIX PROGRAM to make me quit , I only have 51% lung capacity ..... this smoking off and on will NOT CUT IT ... GET HELP with the addiction and FAST ... WHEN I had pneumonia 4 times in less than 3 months , I HAD NO CHOICE . Ya'll have still have choices , and it should be to quit .

GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY .............. Make 2009 a SMOKE FREE year for you too

I am weaning off on my Dr's recommendation....why...because of a medical condition.....to go cold turkey after smoking for nearly 40 years can bring on a heart attack ...so I am following his advice and weaning off over the coming weeks...not everybody is the same...........

The cigarette addiction is more of a hand to mouth movement addiction. That would be why so many people have problems with quitting by going to gum or candy.. its the absence of the movement that throws them off. Hence.. gaining weight while quitting, changing from the cig to mouth, to food to mouth.
Nicotine is another addiction onto itself. The chemicals have to wear thierselves down and out of the system. That's where the cough, flu-like symptoms, headaches, crankiness, etc come from.
That is why it is hard as hell to break the cycle, its more then what nonsmokers see. they see it as oh you can stop anytime you want, wrong, you dont get addicted with your first cigarette, thats why they sell them in multiples. You dont get fat with one cookie. You dont become a drunk with one drink. My grandmother was right, the worst people on quitting smoking, are the previous quitters thierselves. They see that it took them such and such way to stop, everyone else should too. It doesnt work that way. I smoke up to 15 cigs a day, for 17 years. It will take me longer then the person that only smokes 10 a day for 6 years. Same with Englich Chick, it will take her longer and a more strenuous routine to help her to quit than it will me.
My course of action to change my habit is going to be different from most of yalls. I plan on eating healthier, getting more strength training. I'm more worried about getting my lung capacity back. I cant even read a story at bedtime to my girls without having to stop midsentance to get a breath. Yes, it is totally my fault. And I am the one going to fix my mistake so that my girls can have me in thier life for a lot longer.

You should get some capacity back. My friend Judy that quit when she almost died out at the horse stalls because she couldn't breath in the cold air got most of her lung capacity back and she had smoked for 40 years and over 30 of those years were at 3 packs a day, constant smoking.

Keep up the good work Skand..........

Day 2 was really tough for me; but yesterday was a little better. I keep having this feeling like I am missing an old friend. I have to keep telling myself that what I am missing is not a friend at all!!

Here's hoping this new week will be good for us all!!
