the squat maneuver

What do you call it when you walk up to a chicken and it squats with its wings stuck out? Some of my hens have started to do this. I don't know if they WANT to be touched or if they're scared?
And do black australorps taste good as far as a meat bird? I have one that is not only broody but eats the eggs in the nest box. She has to gooo....

The ones that squat is just something that they do when they lay or are about to lay. As for the meat Australorps are for meat and eggs so they should taste good but I don't know.

Squatting = solicitation for sex

If you don't have a roo, then they're thinking your the roo and are requesting "service". Just give them a good pat on the back and ruffle their tails and they'll be on their way.

Chicken tastes like chicken. The older the bird, the more "chickeny" it tastes and the tougher the meat, but all good eats.
