the stink eye over farm fresh eggs

I'm sorry but if it doesn't work for the beef industry, how will it for eggs?

I think a big reason why a lot of people don't listen or believe or agree with the statement is that they don't really care about industrial environment vs small farming. If you showed a photo of a bunch of crammed up hens, sadly a lot of people think chickens are too dumb to realize the difference, or don't have feelings, or don't deserve better. Same for beef. Show a photo of cattle crammed knee-high in poo, and the audience says you're a radical animal activist, or that they're "just cows."

I was once searching up data and information on grass fed vs corn fed beef and came across a site, a .org site (which schools teach kids are always reputable) that was boasting for paragraphs on end about the myth and scam of "free range and farm fresh eggs." Things like chickens don't care for the difference, there's no difference in the nutrition or taste, farmers literally inject eggs with beta-carotene for color, chicken owners agree that chickens are too dumb to forage in the pasture, etc etc.

Out here, when I sold eggs for eating, half the co-workers of my family's turned the idea of getting them even for free down. Why? Because they're dirty, they might have chicks in them, or because they have MORE cholesterol than storebought.

Maybe I just have it worse off over here with people's reactions, but, I just think some people can't be taught.

Sorry for the depressing reply.

I feel the same way Illia - some people can't be taught and I guess Im not 'angry' its really much more sad and depressing. You want to make the world a better place for your children but how can we when theres people like that that actually make up a good percentage of the population!

Same. I don't even try. If they want my eggs, great. If they don't, great. I've given up trying to explain anything. And if they think 2.50 a dozen is too much, that doesn't hurt my feelings either. If I can't sell them at my price, I'll either give them away to people I like that haven't asked for any nor expect to get them for free, or I'll cook them and feed them back to the hens. I suppose if I had 40 or more hens I'd feel differently but for now I have only 9 and I'm fine with turning away ignorant people.

I found that you come across a full spectrum of people. My wife works with a guy who absolutely rants over the fresh eggs from us,the taste and size and color of the yolk. Insisted on paying $5 a doz. and flaunts to his friends that he has an egg "connection". You can lump the people in that class with the morally obligated shop local crowd. Then you get the other end with people, they are either repulsed at the idea or to frugal. Then there are the in between crowd that could take them or leave them. The flavor and consistency of fresh eggs utterly outweigh any cost differences of store eggs. I got my own chickens because I ate some eggs at an event that were fresh from a friends flock and from that point I was on a mission to get some of my own. Although the seed had been planted earlier with friends saying you should get some chickens.

I don't eat eggs or chicken - I do eat other meat (only free range meat, not feed lot). I cannot bring myself to eat anything from a chicken - I love them too much! I feed the eggs back to the girls, and if there's too many I chuck a couple in the horses' feeds. Old trick for coat condition.

My hens are to me like dogs and cats are to most other people. I used to eat eggs until I got my chickens - now I just feel kind of sick at the thought of eating something that came out of my pet!

I like the two pictures made me think stressed eggs or relaxed eggs its your choice. My new add campaign.LOL. I know my eggs are worth more heres why fresh water everyday, clean living environment, fresh veggies from the garden everyday, fresh air I live in the country, hands on care, no chemicals used here at the farm, & free ranged. Eggs gathered daily.
