"The Storm" is coming!

That was a good movie.

It cracks me up how everything shuts down here after an inch of snow. I've been through those hellacious storms on the Great Lakes- and we'd still have school

Fingers crossed that everybody (chooks included) is comfortable and has power

Our soapstone stove is humming along. DH cut and split some wood to do us for a few days. Feeders and waterers are full. If the power goes out, will bring my crippled rooster and my only banty inside (she's finishing her molt and has no one to snuggle with, just like Zane). We have food enough to last for weeks, I think. Anyway, I'm at 2000 ft, so will probably get 3-4", I guess. I hate snow--saw enough of it when we lived in Utah, Colorado and Ohio.

And if you get snowed in you got friends here at lower levels to come rescue you and all the chickens.......

I live in Florida and people around here are starting to talk about moving farther South if it gets any colder lol.

My parents live in LOL and yeah it was all of 45 there today????? Anyone talking about moving further south is not a true Floridian, cause a true Floridian knows that this is typical and in a few days it will be 75 again.

Storm? Heck we've had snow for 4 days straight now. Close to 3 ft.now, and counting. Freezing teperatures? Yep First 2 mornings 1 below zero without wind chill factor. We've been going out twice a day just to keep the paths shoveled to feed the critters open. Supose to get 1 to 4 more inches tonight. I like snow, but it seems to make more work out of keeping the animals comfortable, fed.and watered. We have back up heat, and a generator but haven't had to use them. Thank Goodness! All the schools have been closed here for three days. Good luck all. Keep u,and your chickies warm, and comfortable.

This is the 5th day in a row it has not gotten out of the 50's that's cold for this part of FL. And the high Saturday is only going to be 44. Another freeze warning tonight. Its just alot of cold weather in a row.

While that is not typical of FL, it has done it before. I lived down there 34 years before moving up here to GA and both sides of my family from way way back are natives, it happens.

Well, what I do for my chickens is laugh hysterically and take pictures of them as they freak out at their first sight of snow

They had a complete little hissy fit last year when it snowed, it was absolutely hilarious.

If you are expecting to lose power and that their waterers will freeze just heat up some water on your woodstove to thaw out their water. You may want to save yourself some headaches and just bring in their water for the night. It took me 2 nights of frozen solid water to figure that out

We just set it next to the woodstove overnight.
