The strangest thing you have ever eaten

Quote:
boudin is my favorite thing in the whole world!! NuNus makes the best, though the package I had from Market Basket wasn't bad.
dang, now I'm totally craving some and I only have a couple links left.

I have a co-worker who goes down to LA a couple times a year (or has people come visit him). Either way, a supply of boudin from NuNus makes it's way to my freezer.

Weirdest thing I've ever eaten? bear. gator. both not that exciting. snapping turtle (greasy, esp if you make soup! *yuck!*) and my mom's personal fave: squirrel brains and gravy She made me eat it, does it still count?

Not of the strange grossout sort, but growing up we used to eat "coffee bread" take regular white bread, sprinkle liberally with sugar. take cup of coffee with plenty of milk. pour coffee over bread. Just don't ask why coz I'm not really sure

Pork brains in scrambled eggs (very greasy).
Hogshead cheese (it's not cheesey. More like souse. Basically leftover pork parts cooked down and made into a kind of meatloaf).
grasshoppers grilled over the fire (taste like shredded wheat. take off the legs as they tend to get caught in your throat).
various dog treats and dog food. (just making sure I'm not feeding them nasty tasting stuff).

Stinkbugs sauteed in butter. They were invading our home and decorating our bedroom window. So...I made them pay.

I froze them so they couldn't feel anything. Then I soaked them in hot water for hours. Then fried them up in butter...they didn't taste bad at all. Especially since they were a little burned and there wasn't much else to taste.

But honestly, they had the texture of cheese curls, so crispy were they. You could probably sprinkle some cheese flavoring on them, then blindfold someone and feed it to them. They wouldn't know they were eating bugs.

This thread is making me hungry.

I agree with some of the people who posted saying that what you think is strange is normal to them.

We eat calamari all the time and all sorts of seafood. During Christmas, we have a million different fish and usually fry up a whole eel. It sits on the table like a big coiled fried snake. I love snail. When we order Sushi - I order everything imaginable, including anemone and salmon roe. Now those are some big fish eggs.

When I was little, my grandmother used to take an entire sheep head and bake it in the oven. I would sit there and watch her eat the gums and the cheeks and then in the end she'd take the eyeball out and eat it. Now that was a sight. She also shot and ate squirrel.

I've had oven roasted crickets and would like to find a restaurant that intentionally served insects in food. It's a great protein resource that we don't take advantage of enough in the US.

I'll try almost anything!

Anyone ever eat Balut Eggs ? Don't click on the link if you're squeamish.

You really did that?? Get outta here. I took a photo of one of our windows tonight and found three dozen on ONE screen. This is the time of year for them. When you kill them, they actually smell like cilantro to me. How did you know that stinkbugs were edible and wouldn't hurt yer tummy?

when my sister was little she used to eat catapillars. but only half of them. The other half was always pocketed. Mine was probably piranha. Even learned to catch and cook them. And some giant roaches I called screaming ladies. Sounded just like an old lady screaming as they'd fly.
