The Struggle Is Real!

I have been in construction and salvage most of my life so... Making auto feeders and water containers was a bit more of a challenge.

My door was cheap and easy. 2x4, 2x6, wooden dowel or biscuit, wood glue and thin plywood cover or gussets. You can run it over with a truck. Most doors in your house are 2x2 frame stapled together. Take the skin off of it and its flimsy. Are you using a door stop? The little 1/2-3/4 wood strip in the frame the door strike when closed. Setting the hinges recessed with a wood chisel goes a long way also. Carpentry book, index, doors
the hinges are recessed and there’s a door stop that also keeps shavings in. Do you use treated wood? the 2x4’s seem to “reshape” and warp after a fall/winter cycle. i’ve never used dowels and glue though.
I actually have a carpentry book coming i. the mail soon. i really don’t want to repeat the same thing over again since it doesn’t work.

I refused to let DH get rid of any of the screen and/or storm doors from the remodeling of the various buildings on the new property. Not even the heavy, awkward steel storm door with too much glass. One day it will be just fine as the main door on the big coop/small barn.

Try the local Habitat for Humanity ReStore for good deals on old doors.
Second that! Got a great screen door there, stapled on some Hardware Cloth to the outside and good to go! I hate flies!

What is DH? that went right over my head. i actually have 4 interior doors in my garage. i wonder if i should tear the skin off of one and see what I can salvage

Some here say DH for Dear Husband. Old interior doors from the house are good poop boards around here! Poop happens!

Yes, treated wood. They make a dremel type biscuit cutter that makes joints easy. I use my cordless drill and 3/8 woolen dowel. I'm good at setting depth and angle. Wood glue, Rubber maker and cover with plywood gussets. I have made interer doors and oak cabinets. Biscuit tool is a must for cabinets.
