the sultan thread

OMG, right now, my girls are filthy! I don't think I gave them such wet food, but every one is so messy! And poor Charlie is no longer in top condition. He keeps being frantic with his wings, causing himself to break wing feathers

So really, I don't want to take pictures 'cause they all look awful at the moment. And Charlie's bum is brown from the diaper and rubbed/messed up on top. He has to wear one every single day, as I have no place to put him and Bouillon, except loose in the house

I did post pictures 3 weeks ago, here. They were getting a "hair cut" so they could see better

awww cluck, we all know 'messy chickens'. lol... we want photos anyway!!!! So most everyones Sults are skittish???? hmmm... maybe mine are a little 'derpy' then. Both Victoria and Elizabeth are so docile and calm! unless they get a bug and decide to go do their little dance across the yard or fly out the front door of the coop! Victoria really gets some height and distance for being such a little girl! Elizabeth does this 'zig zag' across the yard that just makes me laugh so hard when she runs. Victoria comes running to me when I call her now every time. She loves to be held and cuddled like a little stuffed animal. They have just totally captured my heart these two.

Harper, I do have a few broken feathers on their feet too. Seems inevitible. Mine have decided they love to get up on the feed bin lid to perch at night. Elizabeth has also started to perch on a 12 high roost on her own now too.

Well, it could be because you only have two that get a lot of attention. I had 12 originally, and in that case, I think they acted more flock like, always feeding off of each other's fears and easily startled. However, they've really made a 180, and now I can reach in and stroke their chests, pat their heads, etc while they just stand there. And it's easy to pick them up, plus they come to me when I open the door. And I didn't really do anything, they just kind of "matured" out of it.

Really busy today, but if they remain so comically dirty later, I'll try to get a picture, LOL

Yes, most definitely! You need 2 eggs for 1 large AA (or slightly less) and that means double the chickens! (well, mine are bantams) LOL. I'll have to see this winter how long they stop laying. Since everyone is relying on me providing eggs, I might have to put a light in their coops!

It's so hot today, I put 1 liter bottles of ice on the ground for everyone to get close to if they need to cool off. This was the first time doing so, and as I was closing the coop door, I think one of the sultans touched the ice and screeched, LOL. Mayhem ensued for a bit, LOL. I need to go out and see if they have figured out the usefulness of a big chunk o ice?!?!

Air conditioners cost a fortune to run, so my husband turns ours off all the time! Ugh! At least today it's only going to be 96, glad to get a break, even if it's a little one

So far the chickens are still alive, so I'm glad for that :)

Ooooh, correction, I just refreshed my weather.com page and it's only going to be 89 degrees today, and temps are going down! Yaay! I'm a happy camper now! Whew!
