Ok I need help. Ivory is NOT doing well. She has a 75 watt heat lamp and its not very cold here, but she's hunched and wont eat. Her crop is empty, and she's real skinny.
If you know what to do, or of any high protein liquid I can give her in a syringe, Please don't hesitate to tell me.

Lord have mercy, I have NO idea what to do! Please post in the emergency thread! You can make chick mash mixed with warm water and carefully use the syringe to put it down her crop (the breathing hole is there at the back of the tongue before the throat, just get all the way back. I hope she gets better! I'm off to a Christmas party, I'm so sorry I don't know what else to do! You already gave her meds, right? Oh gosh, I really hope she gets better!!!

Another thought is yogurt. The kind with active bacteria. The plain non-flavored greek one at Vons is good, it has active cultures. Give her that. It's good for digestion, and soothing as well as nutritious. I've been making yogurt for my birds now because it's kind of expensive to buy, and making it with milk gives me a gallon for the price of a gallon of milk, if I keep the yogurt culture going...

Gotta go, I'm so sorry!

Thank you. I'll start giving her yogurt. I have posted in the emergency thread, so I'm hoping I'll get help soon. Thanks for your help.

Did you ever treat your birds with Corid like I recommended a week ago? If that's what it is and you didn't treat, then I'd really be worried about your bird. At 8 weeks old it doesn't really even need a light anymore, so being cold isn't the issue.

Coccidiosis literally tear apart the cells lining the intestine, which is why bloody diarrhea is one of the main symptoms. However, you don't always see the blood because there are several strains that affect different parts of the intestine. When the cells are compromised so is their ability to absorb nutrients...which is why she's losing weight.

My parasitology professor did his Master's thesis on coccidiosis on chickens and he said that all of the birds who were infected and not treated were gone in about a week.

Why didn't you treat her and your other birds a week ago when the symptoms first showed up?

I was wondering if any one on here breeds or know of anyone who breeds show quality bantam sultans. I would like to fine some to start showing them. I would be happy with eggs or the birds. Please let me know if you know of anyone I would greatly apprecate it.

Do let us know how she is doing! I hope were able to get some corid? I really hope she pulls through!

NEK38583, Boggy Bottom Bantams used to have them but now I don't see them on their website? You could possibly PM him to see if he can direct you to someone?

Well, she made it through the night, and is doing quite well now! She's alert and eats and drinks on her own. And I haven't even treated her with Corid. I'm leaving to get it in about an hour. I gave her a BUNCH of fluids (including de-wormer) and some egg yoke last night, and this morning she was eating chick feed with her brood mates.

I really feel like an idiot, for not getting Corid sooner. I didn't see any additional signs of cocci, so I thought maybe thats not it. I treated her with what I had then and she seemed to get better.
I hate the weather in the valley.

My hens don't mind it, but my chicks get cold. I wasn't using a heat lamp, until about 6 days ago, when she looked weak and cold.

Oh, I did see some poop on the roost bar with blood in it, so I'm going to dose EVERYBODY with Corid. Does anybody know if it will harm them if they don't have cocci?
Thanks for all your help, hokankai and cluck-cluck. You've been really helpful.
