ok, I need a comparison from you all. My Elizabeth is now 24 weeks. She has NO comb what so ever, NO wattles.nothing, nada. My second one has wattles, comb etc. second one is laying almost every day. What did your girls look like at 24 weeks. Is she normal? She is still like an overgrown chick as far as acting. Eats good, drinks good etc. She's a mommas girl. None of my other 12 pick on her at all. treat her like she was stilla baby. They do treat my second one like a hen of the flock- gets the typical pecking order stuff. Here is the first girl. Lizzie.
Fishnet she is so adorable! I only have the one male, so I don't have anything to compare her to. Maybe just a late bloomer? My little rooster has had wattles & his comb has been pretty red for a while. He's 16 weeks old.
I think our hatchery chickens are very good layers, probably for being chosen for that trait over many years, however, a sultan is usually a bad layer, which is why they are considered purely ornamental. I read they take up to 10 months to start laying, but mine started at about 25 weeks. Some of my girls have a lot of red in the face, and some don't.. I'm sorry, I can't remember when my girls started, but I think it was around 21-23 weeks?
I am just wondering if there is something geneticaly wrong with her? Yellow beak and legs, so I know she is not right to begin with. Missing a toenail from birth, so I know her genes are not right as well. You would think at this age she would at least have something for a wattle and comb? still peeps too! who knows. She seems healthy and fine other than that. Smaller than Victoria, but fine. How cute would that be to have a juvenile Sultan for life???? lolol. As long as it is not a health issue for her I'm ok with it.
Fishnet, your girls are beautiful! Thanks for sharing the video. I loved hearing the Sultan noises they make. My Nugget sounds the same. I just wish she c was as tame. Nugget still acts like the baby of the flock even though she's the same age as the Barred Rock girls who are ready to lady any day now. She peeped for a long time and still does sometimes. Your Elizabeth should catch up with the rest. Nugget and my Silkie have taken much longer to mature.
