The Supreme Court's Gun Ruling This Week - Not A Debate

Echo echo echo! I agree with all of you. The NRA is a bit of a thorn in my side, however. I think a lot of the things they do and say are not always helpful. They have an uncanny way of stirring up the most guttural feelings amoungst their opposition. Let's face it, Eddie the Eagle doesn't really do much to make people empathize with the gun owners of America. I think the most important factor in this debate is the simple question of 'how?'. How will the government round up all the guns in this giant nation. For all practical purposes, it's impossible, which makes banning them a moot point.

I actually agree with you as to the intent of the 2nd Amendment. But whats the difference, rifle or handgun?
I served in the military and reserves, and I'm adept with both. I now choose to defend and protect the Nation as a citizen at home by being already armed at my own expense with an autoloading handgun (the same one Prissy owns, BTW).

The 2nd Amendment isnt about weapons development, or who should be allowed to own what; those who feel they must control us have created that argument, Instead it is part of a greater ideal:

The privilege and responsibility of the citizens of the nation to uphold the nation itself...

Myself, and my two children are Life Members, and are active in the NRA. IMAO, the 5/4 ruling proves, to me at least, the importance of not getting another liberal president elected to send more liberal judges to the Supreme Court.

short sweet and to the point here hubby and i both own guns...always have ever since my son was a newborn...our motto is guns dont kill people..people kill people....think about it.

I love Mississippi's lax gun laws. I do not have a conceal carry permit and don't need one here.
I do own hand guns and numerous long guns.

I agree that guns don't kill people, just like pencils do not cause misspelled words, and matches do not start fires.

My feelings on the Second Ammendment Rights are the same as most here.

But to take this one step further. I am an American.
If there was "NO" Second Ammendment I should still be able to own a gun. I have no arrest record. Have commited no crimes against another person. I work, don't cheat on my taxes, pay my bills on time, feed my chickens and do not abuse my children.

As a "free" American Citizen until I do something that warrants them taking some legal action against me I should have the right to own guns.
And honestly I don't think it should matter if I have 1 or a 101. I also don't think the government has the right to know I have that gun or how many.

Just my 2 cents but with inflation and the cost I gas I may need to send you all a penny.

You know before we moved out here to our homestead i was sure that i would *never* own a gun..let alone use one. I was glad that there were ppl who *did* because i figured then the bad guys wouldnt know who did and who didnt.

It took less than a year in the country to make me change my tune. I still cant handle the rifle. Its just too much for me. But i can protect myself, my family and my critters just fine with my 22 handgun.

Both of my sons work in the service industry. Both work a lot of night shifts. Both deal with a lot of money when their shifts close. Both are legally armed and i would be terrified if they werent. And both would be fired if their companies found out they were armed. They would rather have employees face being robbed and murdered unarmed than face a potential lawsuit.

The reality for all of us is we have to be prepared to protect ourselfs in whatever way we feel comfortable doing (not everyone feels comfortable with a gun and those that dont shouldnt own them)..we cant count on others to protect us. Companies are afraid of lawsuits. The police are spread thin. But the bad guys are well armed and not afraid to shoot.

And i agree 100% with the person that pointed out that the VA massacre might have ended different if any of the students had been allowed to be armed. Several years ago here a guy walked into a fast food restraunt..shot his gf behind the counter to death and then turned his gun on the ppl in the restraunt. Not one, or two, but three ppl with concealed handguns returned fire and he was killed before he had a chance to finish his plans. If those ppl hadnt been there and armed he would likely have slaughtered most of the ppl in the restraunt.

I just wanted to drop in and say that I feel that I have a right to keep and bear all of the firearms that I own, whether the government supports that or not. I was glad to hear of this ruling. Anything like that is a step in the right direction in my opinion. That's all I have to say on this matter.

1acrefarm and Elderoo both bring up good points about handguns and how both,
in theory, are the same.

My theory on handguns is simply in the context of the 2nd ammendment and the
era in which it was created handguns didn't exist. Single shot hand muskets (forgive
my lack of gun terminology) did exist but pale in comparison to the handguns of
today. I am not anti handgun. Please understand that.

Elderoo brought up another issue, those who have served in the military. As far
as I'm concerned current and exmilitary members should be given lifetime permits
as they have been trained and are well qualified to have weapons.

Let's say Elderoo was in a bank that was being robbed and people being shot.
If he was carrying his weapon he would have the ability to save lives. What if he left
his gun home that day? My dad is a retired police officer and I have many friends
who are officers also. In most states cops are required to carry a firearm at ALL
times. Retired cops must qualify once a year to maintain a NATIONWIDE right, or
obligation to carry their guns. This was something put into affect my the Bush
Administration and Homeland Defense.

Your point is well taken. There are fanatics on both sides of the arguement, both trying
to use emotional arguements. The trouble with banning guns is it takes away the
law abiding citizens right to carry. Criminals don't care.
