Hi everyone, I just hot my very first speckled sussex ever. I have never felt with this breed before but I hear they are friendly breeds and they are just beautiful!. I hear they are pretty good layers.... Anyway here is my pretty little girl. (At least hoping I have a girl) looks like a pullet to me, what about y'all?
Here she is

As you can see her upper part of her beak is not straight, but it doesn't seem to be hendering her. I know you don't want to use her for breeding but I think she's Perfect other wise!
yeah I'm not going to breed her. Her beak lines up properly just crooked so I guess it's crooked beak not scissor or cross break. She is alertly, eats great, drinks fine, so sweet, mothers the younger chicks seems happy and healthy otherwiseIt's hard for me to see in the pics if she is cross beaked or if her beak is just crooked. I had a cross beaked chick that I tried VERY HARD to keep. Not to discourage you, but I will not try again should this situation occur again. I can give you resources and advice if she is scissor beak. Some say it is genetic, so I would not breed her.
I just did,t know if crooked beak put pressure on the brain? If it would cause constant headaches for her or anything like that?I just got two new Light Sussex pullets about 5 month old and was wondering if they are a good breed. Wanted to know if getting a Light Sussex rooster would be a good idea as well?
may I ask what fbmc stands for (I know it means breed or color but for what?)Just to update on my hatch: it's Day 23 and I've had two chicks hatch, but both only half SS. One SS chick died after pipping. I have 12 eggs left, 8 of them pure SS and 4 mixes. Veins still look ok, and I've got two pips. So, I'm cautiously optimistic. :/
I had temperature issues and already ordered the highly recommended super fancy brinsea thermometer so I don't have problems in the future.
The two that hatched are SS mixed with australorp and FBMC. The FBMC-SS has clean legs and is colored like the SS. I can't wait to see it grow up.
