Poor Easy is having a hard molt.

And his tail seems to be coming back in with more white than I remember?
The cockerel I kept didn't have any white feathers in his wings until after his molt. Now he has some in both wings

Get some Naturewise Feather Fixer feed and switch him over to it. It will bring him thru that molt with lovely new feathers. They just started carrying it at Tractor Supply. It also help prevent your birds from getting mites. If TSC doesn't have any, ask them to order it for you. Runs about 14.99 for 40 lbs.

Also buy a bag of Back Oil Sunflower Seeds Give him 1/8 cup a day. The oil from the seeds will eventually get to his oi gand and sheen his feathers when he preens them. http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/pr...il-sunflower-wild-bird-food-6-lb?cm_vc=-10005 ( note in this brand the larger the bag, the more debris they seem to contain, interesting). I get mine at Agway, never a problem.
Best,
Karen

Thanks Karen. I'll look into it. I do feed a non GMO, soy free feed. I can't eat soy so I don't like feeding it. But maybe I could try a bag and see. Mites are a problem here. They do get a bit of whole grain scratch in the evenings that include sunflower. The younger birds get just sunflower along with their regular feed.

Does anyone have any recommendations to just how many weeks it takes a speckled sussex to lay? I know they are slow to lay. My speckled sussex is turning 18weeks, but she seems small and has a small comb and just showing waddles. She is basically the same size as my polish, but feels heavier.

I have a feeling it will be awhile longer for my egg, but would love to get some ideas as to when they usually can lay :)

My coro sussex took as long as my orps - 8 months. I don't think other sussex varieties take that long. Season had a lot to do with it. She was a summer hatch, so her 1st egg came in late January. (No supplemental lighting used.)
