I LOVE THE BREED SO MUCH THAT I HAVE SAVED AN ENTIRE HOVA-BATOR INCUBATOR FOR THE EGGS FROM TWO OF MY PRETTIEST CHICKENS. I HAVE BRED SUSSEX FOR TWO YEARS AND GET AROUND TWELVE TO FIFTEEN BUCKS PER CHICKEN! (AROUND EIGHT FOR MY HEAVY BREED BROWN EGG LAYERS) I LOVE THE GENTLE NATURE OF THE BIRD AND THE BEAUTIFUL COLORING.....HERE IS A PICTURE OF THE TWO BIRDS I AM BREEDING FROM THIS YEAR! I RAN OUT OF ROOM FOR THEM THIS YEAR SO I CAN ONLY BREED FROM ONE HEN TO KEEP MY FLOCKS POPULATION UNDER CONTROL.....I PLAN ON EXPANDING NEXT YEAR!

First, my oddball rumpless Sussex. Yes, a rumpless Sussex. In fact this girl isn't even like an Araucana, I believe her entire rear-end is missing. Past the shoulders it just sort of drops, unlike Araucanas who still have a "cushion." I got this girl from a local breeder who got her stock from Greenfire Farms. We both have no clue what went on here, but it is obviously some sort of sport. . .

Second, my big girls - Getting along very well, and turning out to be some very gentle hens. I'm breeding a Shamo to them, crazy as it sounds, and so far I'm not collecting any eggs until I KNOW there's some fertility going around. Breeding such two completely different birds, both in shape and in fluffiness contrast, is not easy.

I really do love these girls and am honestly curious how much they weigh. . . . Because so far they are by far, without a doubt, the biggest chickens I've ever owned.
