So I had some suspicions about one of my chicks for a while, then I got over it. We picked up a rooster that someone was giving away about a week and a half ago now....and now my suspicions are back. Can anyone put them to rest once and for all? Is this a hen or a roo?? They're about 7 or 8 weeks old now.

Yep, at that age, I would say Rooster 100%.

Well, I have an interesting thought on that subject. Henk69 (bred Speckled Sussex with Light Sussex. both sexes in both directions. In one cross, Henk got a bird which looks suspiciously like a black-tailed buff. In Outram's 1925 book, "The Sussex Fowl", the Brown Sussex description looks suspiciously like a Wheaten Rooster and Hen. The Light Sussex is eWh based. The Speckled Sussex in the US should be e+ based (to which eWh is dominant). On another note, Greenfire is supposed to b releasing birds they imported from England in 2013.

I don't see the brown Sussex on their site. im actually looking for brussbars but I can only find one living line. if I cant find the brussbars then I am going to attempt to recreate the breed. if anyone knows of either breed, show quality or any other useful information I would greatly appreciate it.

How would you go about recreating these? I never knew they existed, and am just curious.
