The Sussex thread!

Is it always just the comb or does the feathering play a part in it also? I have three all born 4 wks ago...3 just about fully feathered and one which has the same feathering as above. The all have the same personalities and are very friendly.

My friend baught 3 speckled sussex for 190 pound and one of them is ill!, if it dies he will be so annoyed

Still no tail feather growth AT ALL, so we have come to terms with the fact that she is really a he. His new name is Lincoln Rooster, a play on the name of the singer Lincoln Brewster. I got a lot of good rooster info over on the Managing Your Flock board. Hoping that we can raise a gentleman who will protect our free ranging flock without feeling the need to kick our butts.

You'll be glad to have given him a chance. There's a wonderful wholeness to a flock with a roo, and the dynamics are clearly different. I had a Speckled Sussex roo that was just a love. Hope you have the same luck!

Just hatched out 5 Silver Sussex , 3 are black with yellow face and 2 are all black, wish I had more

I hatched out a few a while back and am really enjoying mine also. From my very limited experience and reading about them you might have 3 boys and 2 girls. I can't wait to extend my flock by using these as starters. A trio of them have such wonderful and perky personalitys. I may just use them to grow my flock.
