BLUE mixed breed (yes I looked up blue Ameraucana and even thought it was one, then I got a good look at its legs, lol. I suppose it’s one of those “Favacaunas”)

BLUE LACED Andalusian (I know I just made up a name for this color, but it’s good to notice there is a difference in phenotype and genotype. It’s unrealistic to expect black laced dove grey to pigeon blue on most other breeds.)

What is the specific distinction that you're making between self blue and lavender in this case? Obviously the orp doesn't have that dual tonality that the neiderrheiner has, but what genes are responsible for that because I thought self blue and lavender were the same gene--Lav

I could be misunderstanding, but I believe what Amer is saying is that the term 'self blue' should apply to blue-gray birds without lacing whose color is based on the blue gene (Bl), while the term 'lavender' should apply to blue-gray birds without lacing whose color is based on the lavender gene (lav). As it is, lavender and self blue are considered synonymous for birds with the lavender gene, but self blue is confusing as a term because of its similarity to the term blue, despite being a completely different gene.

Self blue is considered a more correct term for "lavender," it's also been in use far longer than "lavender" as far as I know and is the standard in other countries.
No, the United States is the only country that uses the term “self blue.”
In other countries they use lavender or pearl grey.
Many countries have standardized un laced blues or self blues along with laced blues, however.

Ah, ok. I think that's what I must be thinking... before the lavender Orpingtons were imported we only had Lav represented here in self blue OEGB and Porcelain d'Uccles, right?
