The Texan Pioneer utility pigeon- a tutorial

It doesnt seem to be as popular as it once was. Ive only known that one guy that kept pigeons. I have recently noticed a flock of pigeons circling the block and always sitting at one house in particular, maybe they have pigeons?

Young birds have slowed a bit with the cold and shorter days but all my breeders are still producing. I should have more young pairs to ship in February and March. If anyone is interested give me a call. 361-332-8797. PM me is fine but I don't get to my messages that often. Joe.

Very interesting reading. I have never eaten squab or raised pigeons. Joe you have big, healthy, beautiful birds.

Beautiful birds. Interesting thread. Does artificial lighting aid in production?

I see flocks around here in Gilroy, CA.

I was considering raising pigeons sometime, but then got a flock of 15 chickens so they're keeping me busy enough for now.

With pigeons, I was considering just building "habitat", the coop, and allowing the local pigeons to set up shop. Now I'm thinking a utility breed might be a better idea.

We have Eurasian ringneck doves all over the place here, those ones that go "eurgh, eurgh", they're an invasive species.

What does the meat taste like? I love doves and pigeons and I think I'd like to keep a few. Anyone selling them? How much for a breeding pair after shipping? Those are just lovely, fat birds!
