The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

That's one of the extra benefits of hatching/breeding. You get to have a part of your favourite bird with you forever. That's why it's so important for me to have Cruella offspring
How wonderful it will be to see lots of little Cruellas running around the property. šŸ„°ā¤ļø

Right now they're all limited to the mixed bantam pen, but we did have an escapee today. Funny to see her running around with the LFs. She even laid an egg in their nests

Interestingly, they didn't mess with her at all, and I'm starting to get ideas about merging them

Wow! Lucky girl. Brave too. If the bantams and LFs are accustomed to seeing each other already, it may not be that difficult to do so. And, it would free-up that extra space for more chickens!!

Years ago, I had the 2 together, and they coexisted peacefully. Any issues I DID have were usually between LF. During wintertime, the bantams would wedge their selves between the Buff Orpingtons, etc, on the roosts. I did finally separate the bantams but only because they seemed to be struggling during particularly frigid temperatures. That’s when they had their own building built just for them. 😊

They share a wire fence (and a wall, and a tree trunk, but that's beside the point) so they are very accustomed to seeing eachother. They've seen this one grow from a day old, to a fully fledged pullet. I don't know if merging them would benefit the birds, rather than me. What would probably be more beneficial for the bantams would be to let them free range here and there

How cute! The bantams seem to do very well in our weather, so that's not my concern

I imagine you have some cute photos of the bantams under the BO fluff:pop?

I WISH I could still free range mine. But… eagles, hawks, falcons, coyotes, foxes, raccoons, dogs, bobcats…. šŸ˜ž

I know I probably do somewhere, like on my old laptop. I really should go through those photos sometime.

This cutie hatched today. ā¤

Yeah, our area is not a high-predation one, so I don't have to deal with all that (only foxes, sometimes hawks, rarely dogs, and the very rare human). Free ranging can be risky
