The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

My chickens often come to the door of the back entrance/ utility room where I keep a small supply of chicken food. Ini Min has made a habit of coming in when the door is open to poop on the mat. And both Black and Pearl come in once or twice every year when they become broody to see if they can find a nice breeding spot in the utility room. Katrientje only comes to the door to check if there might be treats for her.

It’s the cutest sight to see an itsy bitsy chicken waiting by the door! 🥰 I love it! Evvie thinks she still totally owns the house. She loves the kitchen throw rugs and the blanket on the sofa. Rubys probably got favorite places too! ❤️

I don't know how you handle them being in the house! As much as I love them, I love them even more when they're not pooping my floors :lau !

Some years are better than others on the Broody front. But you've got plenty of them, and determined broodies will go through fall and winter! So all hope is not lost yet! 😁

Indeed.

Although you know me, and I don't like Autumn and Winter very much :p . That is the reason I prefer to have broodies in the late Spring and Summer months; I get to enjoy them more

Well, I have to be faster than the tiny chicken (and, I’m not)! 🤣 When Evvie’s by the door and I’m not paying attention… that girl is fast! If you remember, I raised her inside for a long time, because she had a very rough start (I almost lost her). The brooder chicks terrified her to the point that she was going to hurt herself trying to get away. So, I introduced her to Clovie, and she accepted her eventually. Clovie’s the tiniest, most dainty serama I’ve ever raised, and she’s so terrified of the others. She got hurt a few times. So, I decided that a chicken that tiny wouldn’t thrive in the flock. She’s content having her extra-large parrot cage in the budgie room, and I take her out for her walks and chicken stuff several times a day (well, until she got broody).

I do remember! She's a special girl for sure! Both of them are!

Hopefully she'll raise some gorgeous house chicks for you :love

Awe, what a lucky little girl, that's so wonderful you've made a safe life for her 🥰

Thank you so much, Fluffy. ❤️ I’d love to have a bunch of Evvies and Clovies! But, I’d want the baby Clovies to be independent among their flock mates, unlike my little, fearful Clovie.

Thank you, Tink! ❤️ I’m happy to accommodate such a sweet, quiet little bird. And, she’s so tiny that her requirements are not demanding. I already have air filtration in my budgie room, so one teeny, teeny chicken doesn’t upset things.

You're so right, the chicks should be confident and not fear other birds. I'm sure that their chicks will grow up to be confident members of chicken society
