willing but would need 2 things... money to build the traps, and birds to lay the eggs... right now my bantam pullets are just starting to lay, and it's easy enough to keep track of with a wireless webcam. i've got it set with motion sensor and when it's tripped it captures a pic, then pics every 30 seconds for 10 minutes. I can also just monitor it at will.

i've been leaving 2 eggs in each nest as hints, marked with a black dot on the air cell, and take out only the new ones each day.

today I had 3 eggs! from 'larry' one of the dark brahmas (hubby calls em the 3 stooges so we named them accordingly, moe has darker skin and is boss, larry darker head and curly the whiter head), then 'owl' my qual d'anvers (looks like a small owl with her cheeks and beard), then 'ducky' my silver duckwing oegb went in, moved all the eggs into one nest and added her own. hoping she's deciding to go broody. 8) i'm planning on ordering some eggs soon. the other 5 girls haven't started laying yet but the roos are flirting hard so it's just a matter of time. 8)

maybe next year if i ever get my dorkings here, then i'll have incentive to monitor egg laying and who's doing what.

ki4got-----just bat your eyelashes at the hubby and tell him getter done;)
i'm sure he could build these with no problem

here you can see the bird's body and where it should touch the door

as she can barely squeeze herself through the opening......note her head is already picked up in the diamond hole,

as she stands to step into the crate she slides the door upward and off its nail

chickensnake------the purpose of the breeding is to improve the egg laying,by having roos and hens bred from high end egg layers.very simple, you could use this knowledge esp in the winter when u do alot of holiday baking.you could be feeding alot of birds and getting no eggs, but if trapnested the freeloaders get exposed and culled, then breed from those that produce the most, like begets like so the offspring will lay similar to the mother.in one of the books in the links above it is stated and recorded that after a few years the number of eggs per bird was actually increased.

personally i want eggs year round
