Same with dog or cat food left out for pets. I always bring my dog's bowls in at night. Since becoming more meticulous about that it appears most of my nocturnal visitors have decreased - and I'm in a fairly wooden but technically urban area. We have HUGE raccoons, skunks, tons of opossums...some coyotes, hawks, owls and the occasional mountain lion.
