1st off, In order to answer these questions I must ask this question to make sure your both on the same page (pun enforced). Deal? Coolbeans.
So, have y'all ever been in a really good book that just sucks you in... It's so hard to just put it down?

2nd the improbability drive. Hmmm, that's a valid question but, it's not entirely applicable here and now. However, after this Thursday night, quite possibly a solid maybe?
Sorry...thought we were talking about the Heart of Gold. I'll try better to keep up. :gig

I like both, I've had both. I've never had a bad cat or dog. Proper training is the key to good animals.
Right now, we only have cats because of work schedules.
Agreed!! So much of the stuff people don’t like about either comes down to training I think! They can be trained not to bark, not to follow you from room to room, not to jump on counters, etc. etc.

Sounds like your dog needs a visit to the vet. If it's scratching all the time, something is irritating it. Fleas? Food allergy? Believe me, the itching is bothering the dog far more than it's bothering you.
Well, given that I've grown up with both cats and dogs all my life -50 years now - the 1st curious question I have regarding the "constantly scratching".... What brand and model of food does it get? Reason? Because like humans, dogs can have allergic reaction to foods. Our Vet helped me solve our rescued Silver-golden-doodle itchy issue. She now takes fish oil gelcaps in her meals nearly every day and it's nearly a zero issue. Butidigress...
2nd is what breed or mix is it?
3rd when was the last time it was bathed?
If you waited to take a shower for a few weeks the exfoliating buildup would be just like when the doctor cuts the cast off a broken leg. Same goes for a animal that hasn't had a bath in a while.... That and a good brushing once in a while also reduces the need for feeling the need the scratch all day- every day.
4th when was the last time you had fleas on the pets?

Not everyone is a good fit for having pets of any type. Just like some folks aren't good to have kids - they just don't have the right tools in their toolbox. They can learn the needed tools if they want but, it's their life and their choices.

Of course YMMV as well.

Cheers.
:highfive: :lau I was typing slow while eating dinner and you slide in here before I could finish... Looks like I've gone and repeated ya for future readers..... (Continues to giggle at self)
Take your dog to the vet.
Hopefully it's not suffering from mange mites.

Agree on all this X1000000!!!! The poor dog is probably suffering from allergies or fleas or something more serious.

Also possibly rehome it if you hate it that much since animals can sense these things and it’s not fair to it to live with someone who despises it and wants it to die.

My cats is easy she poops in one box pees in the other so simple lol I did find the best dog...it died at 4 years old...prolly wouldn't get another cat as one before my current cat use to crap in washers then a fox ate her which was the mother to the cat I have now.I hate fur in my house I find it disgusting and all my dog does all day is constantly with the scratching which is irritating
Dogs don’t scratch for no reason. Fleas, mites, hotspots (poor diet), and allergies are most common.

My wife’s cat NEVER jumps on the counter when people are around.

He does leave his muddy paw prints on it over night. So far rat traps haven’t foiled him. Next up is one of those electro shock stay down mats. If that doesn’t work, we may have to discuss the reason for his existence on this earth.

Cats are a-holes.

Second cat that I actually like. It’s my moms. He’s wearing the comfy cone of shame. He got into a fight with an owl, had 2 gashes in his side that required more stitching than I was capable of giving without sedation. Reason we know it was an owl is due to the fact it had a talon lodged in the wound, and it happened well after dark.

Awwww poor baby!!! Glad he’s okay!!

We used to have a dog. Not sure what she was, but we knew that she had some Chocolate Lab and I think some Husky in her. Named her "Socks," because her paws were white while the rest of her was dark. Very fluffy, soft fur, but all that needed to be done with it was the occasional trim and comb-through.
She was the friendliest, gentlest creature that I've ever had the pleasure of meeting, I think. Very good with kids. Would go chasing after a thrown treat, and them come running back with her tongue hanging out and her tail wagging.
We had to have her put down because she was getting old and her bowels were getting dysfunctional, among other things.

I like cats, but I prefer dogs. If I were to get a cat, I would get a few barnyard kitties to eat the mice, and wouldn't keep them indoors all the time like some people do. Maybe on the really cold nights, but if it responds to cuddle attempts with hissing, scratching, and general kvetching, then it's not living in my house as a pet.
