Richard stared a minute at the small portrait on the mantle before getting up and setting it face down. That was the last thing he needed to see right now.

Edmund asked around for Peter, but because no one seemed to know where he was, he decided to go back outside. Maybe Peter was in the garden. Ducking under a gazebo (or whatever they were called back then), he scanned the rainy garden for the duke.(is he unknowingly walking towards Lariah?)
Lariah narrowed her eyes to see a man getting nearer, seeming to not notice her presence. Now why would such a person be in a place like this? She thought.
