The vet accidently DECLAWED my CAT! >_<

All my cats are declawed and none are biters and al l use the littler box...except the 14 yr old, but that a medical issue not because of his claws. I declaw all my indoor cats and every once in a while one runs outside. You could always take her outside on a harness and leash for a while every day, just she wont be able to climb trees. And put her in a spot where she cannot get into any danger.

edited to say that after a declaw, the vets here recommend you use pinto beans in the box for litter for a few days.

Both my indoor cats are declawed, use the box, never bite. I've seen no issues from declawing. One occasionally runs out the door and has no problem returning to his birth place, which was on top of the house. He has to climb a tree to get there and then jump on the roof.

I'm so sorry to hear that your poor cat got declawed. It is a very painful thing to do to any animal unles it is medically necessary. My mom had my cat declawed when I was a kid and I nver got over the sight of it. Traumatized me forever. To me it is lke getting a dogs tail or ears docked. Needless and unnecessary. And cruel to the poor animal.

Just imagine having all your fingernails ripped out by the quick and then having to walk around on your hands with no pain meds.

Cats get used to having no front claws very quickly. I think we humans are more traumatized by the whole thing than they are. I think your cat will be okay. Don't transmit your anxiety to the cat or you may have more problems than you expect.

We had a fully declawed cat growing up and then one that was front declawed. Both figured out how to climb trees. Pepe (le Pew) figured out how to use his toes and grib the bark of the tree to get up. Bigfoot just powered himself up with his back feet.

She is young enough to where, after an adjustment period, she'll be fine.

thats horrible and inexcusible if you ask me - regardless if the vet "feels bad" about it or not. Its called check, double check and recheck - call and confirm with the client THAT MORNING or the night before what the procedure is. I know my vet does this.

I'd be wicked upset and would want amends if it were my cat. Like you, my cat is my therapy in a way. He's my little ball of furbaby and I've spent alot of money on him to keep him with me. He knows when I'm sad, he knows when I need attention or a nuzzle, or just someone to sit beside me and keep me company. I'll be heartbroken when he finally goes - but in the meantime...he's here, and if a vet messed up a surgical procedure on him.. OMG.. yep, I'd be extremely upset and want restitution.

Doesnt matter that the cat CAN live without its claws..its the point it shouldnt of been done, period. Sloppiness and incompetence is never an excuse.

The next time I'm "out" for any reason, I think I'll use a marker to label myself with the correct procedure. Animals too.

I'm kidding. I think. My ex's father had a leg amputated due to complications from diabetes. We did write, "Not this one!" on the other leg. That doc probably hated us, but you never know.
