Both came through the winter strong, one so much so that I had to split. Blueberries are blooming, still a lot of pollen. Bees are working hard, added a medium to originals, feeding and nectar on split that is coming on nicely. Not sure if I will take any of the spring flow, just too sweet for me. Couple who had bad mentoring and lost their hive over the winter are picking a NUC up Friday PM. Asked me for help. More like their hands, I will be more support, learn by doing.

One have made it through the winter, and the other didn't. We're replacing it with a nuc from a member of our local bee club in June. Michigan raised bees/queen.

Look into your state bee keeping clubs and organizations, most have forums and it would be more or less local for what you maybe needing.

beesource.com is a really big bee forum. It would be like the bee version of BYC, I think. Lots of info on there.

I love expanding my range of practical hobbies and learning. I love this forum because of what I learn, even when I am not asking questions, but just reading.

This afternoon went up to help install 5 frame NUC at the couples house who we are helping. Not good, queen, moderate amount, being generous, of bees. Barely enough to keep brood warm, low to mid 40s tonight. Being the way I am I kept quiet until DW and I could talk. Here's what we decided. We will take 4 frames loaded with bees from our split and a perforated following board incorporate into the box with the NUC. Our split is strong enough to take these frames and still increase. The news paper method would be way too much area for the amount of bees at this time. Thoughts are welcome since I've never run into this situation.

You’re putting this nuc into a 10 frame setup? You could leave them in the nuc a bit longer to grow numbers. I will say this… Kamon Reynolds will shake a frame from this box and that box and walk away with tons of success.

I remember that video. This could be the better option, I wouldn't lose any drawn comb. The NUC box is one of those corrugated plastic things which I don't even like to touch Thanks WalleyG74 for jogging this ol' mind?
