My grandaughter and I are eagerly awaiting our first ever hatch!

This is Maddy, helping in the garden...

Hatchday has come and gone, folks...and let me tell you, it'll break your heart. After all the waiting, the excitement, the disappointments and the tears we ended with one preemie chick out of the two eggs (out of seven)which managed to hatch. Still, I am going to call this hatch a success. Why? One word...Dottie. Our saving grace. One tiny ball of spotted fluff that has peeped her way into all of our hearts.

section and let me know. her comb was pale looking and very floppy she died about an hour after i took the picture of her.
We think she was egg bound but not sure we need to find out!

i don't know if any one has answered this question (i'm to lazy to read all of the posts)
but i think she had a condition called "egg yolk tidus" (don't know if i'm saying that right) where she releases the egg yolks and fails at catching them and there was bacteria present so they hardened inside her, we lost 2 hens this way

this happens mostly to heavy layers


ETA i'm also sorry for you're loss

sure you can join... I don't know if it is what you said... i thought maybe she was Dehydrated because some of the other hens are "protective" of their food so i don't know..

So this chicken was egg bound and i thought she was going to die and she lived! She Laid a
huge egg yesterday and now she is as fine as can be! We gave her a "steam bath" to help her pass the egg!
