The weirdest thing just happened... has this happened to anyone else?

Its an ol wives tail ? LOL Oops . Just finishing up my bag of cracked corn. I thought it helped and I didnt argue that because it saves a little on the feed bill.

Yeah but unfortunately it’s not good on them. It promotes fat build up and can lead to fatty liver disease. Unless you plan on butchering then I wouldn’t continue the corn.

Last yr I lost a serama and I suspected the corn so I only gave it sparingly this winter. I guess I will skip it all together next winter. Thanks for the info

I lost an australorp to fatty liver when she was just a year old.
It crushed me.
I have to say though we were pretty conservative with scratch as a treat all along.
I really think it was “just her”. Even so, we cut out almost everything.
They get the occasional meal worm and a tiny ration of sunflower seeds on the weekends but other than that, the only treats they get are herbs.
No corn at all.
The only one who seems to miss it is DH! :gig
For a man it took more than thirty years to convince to get some chickens, he sure loves to spoil them.

Once again, that makes ME the “mean” parent.
First with the kids, then with the dogs, now with the chickens...:lau
I can’t win.

Doing some spring coop maintenance and noticed I had a hen that could use a nail trim. I picked her up and walked inside to get the trimmers. Then all of the sudden I had egg yolk running down my leg!! What the heck, I thought! Freaked me out a bit. I thought she had an egg stuck or something but there were no shell bits at all just the yolk and some white... in the 8 years of raising chickens this was a first! I've been pooped on plenty of times carying a chicken but never yolked on! Has anyone else had something like this happen? I should mention it was 5pm too so everyone was already done laying for the day! Really weird!

Birds are not meant to be picked up so I'm sure you just squeezed her too tight and out popped the yolk...
