I did not know this! The corn does not keep them warm in the winter. That’s an old wives tale. Corn should only be a treat and 10% of the total feed.

Its an ol wives tail ? LOL Oops . Just finishing up my bag of cracked corn. I thought it helped and I didnt argue that because it saves a little on the feed bill.
Last yr I lost a serama and I suspected the corn so I only gave it sparingly this winter. I guess I will skip it all together next winter. Thanks for the infoYeah but unfortunately it’s not good on them. It promotes fat build up and can lead to fatty liver disease. Unless you plan on butchering then I wouldn’t continue the corn.

Birds are not meant to be picked up so I'm sure you just squeezed her too tight and out popped the yolk...Doing some spring coop maintenance and noticed I had a hen that could use a nail trim. I picked her up and walked inside to get the trimmers. Then all of the sudden I had egg yolk running down my leg!! What the heck, I thought! Freaked me out a bit. I thought she had an egg stuck or something but there were no shell bits at all just the yolk and some white... in the 8 years of raising chickens this was a first! I've been pooped on plenty of times carying a chicken but never yolked on! Has anyone else had something like this happen? I should mention it was 5pm too so everyone was already done laying for the day! Really weird!
