We made 100 pages here in the Wellie thread! WooooooooooWhoooooooo!!!!!!!!!

My Wellies lay dark eggs. Two people I know who got Wellies from the same breeder, at the same time as me, their birds don't lay dark eggs. Why is that?
My birds lay dark brown eggs and some are covered in darker brown spots, just beautiful.

That's funny because both the pullets I got from you lay dark, solid color eggs.

That IS funny

.......because I have never had one that didn't lay a speckled egg. Hummmm......now I have to go hunt down that egg carton with the shells from those girls' hatch. Be right back.......

Len~
I would have thought that they would have layed a speckled egg like the ones that they hatched from....these are the shells that your girls came from, don't mind the dust.

Your girls' one remaining sister that I have from that hatch lays a speckled egg. What's up with that?

Hi, I am new to this thread and there is WAY too much to read through lol. I made a decision a while back that I am only going to raise and breed three different breeds of chickens: FBC Marans, Ameraucanas and Welsummers

I have been able to learn a lot about the first two, and well, I just can't find as much about wellies as I would like

So here I am! One of my biggest questions is BREEDERS! I know tailfeathers is great but more options would be nice and I would rather not buy from hatcheries.....

Well Tailfeathers and his friend does have some excellent Welsummers.

There were a few WA breeders, if you want to find a different line, you can either ask him or go into the Welsummer Yahoo Forum for breeders.

Last I heard Royce (Tailfeathers) isn't hatching right now but he might sell you eggs. His contact is a long time Wellie breeder and can supply you with good birds. Kim (PinkChick) is close by you too. I'm not sure if she is selling yet, she is rebuilding after a dog attack. I'm a little ways South, and technically a hatchery, but I have high quality Wellies and Marans. My Welsummer, Marans, Ameraucana and Orpington breeding stock all came from breeders not big hatcheries.

Of course EweSheep isn't tooting her own horn but she has some really nice Wellies as does New2Chooks and a kid from Texas who posted a bunch of pictures a couple of weeks back. The Online Wellie Show Results will give you some ideas as to who has what.

Thanks Len but I do not have a roo at this moment with my girls, so it is no go for hatching eggs. In the fall, I shall!

Sometimes its better to get chicks in the state or the states around you for less travel time. Some hatcheries can do a good job of shipping chicks!

Whitmore Farms may be a good source for some Welsummers however, if I remember right, he may have been booked solid for a while!

How can you not be breeding those hens!?!?! They need a nice boy fertilizing their eggs. I'd have one for you if you weren't so far away. I've been known to blow a couple of hundred bucks to bring in a really nice roo but unless you were serious about selling chicks or eggs it probably isn't worth it.
