The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Quote: SOP in this case is Standard of Perfection.....APA is American Poultry Association.
So you've probably got some good birds from what looks to be a serious breeder.

Have you checked out the Welsummer Club of North America?
Rather young/new club, but you could get some good feedback there, once your birds are older.
They have a Facebook group that has some participants from Europe. https://www.facebook.com/groups/welsummerclubofnorthamerica/

I got them from a breeder a couple of hours away.  He says he breeds to the APA standard.  (If I'm even remembering the correct term).  I'm sure I can find the info but I'll ask anyway...what is SOP.  Somehow I doubt it means the same as what I'm familiar with (Standard Opperating Procedure).  Oh yes, if you want to see the web site of the breeder it is muddyfeathersfarm.com .

I got my wellies from him as well. His birds are quite handsome

We got some chicks from Muddy Feathers also. Super nice folks. He didn't have Wellsummers at the time so we got other breeds. Beautiful birds. Unfortunately we ended up with 4 out of the 6 being cockerels. :th We are planning on getting some Wellies from him next spring.

I'm still in the early stages but I have been fortunate enough to have two Welsummer chicks this spring. They appear to be female and I am thrilled I'll be getting a new color of eggs this fall. These young girls were hatching eggs from Prairie Chick Poultry or minniechickmama here on BYC in SE MN. Her birds are gorgeous, and I look forward to backyard eye candy and eggs from these girls.

Here's Loretta Lynn:

And Patsy Cline (who is sharing a brooder with June Carter-an EE)

Loving these sweet chicks already.

Here are 2 of my Welsummers at 7 weeks. Pretty sure these 2 are pullets
