The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I am happy to announce that 2 of 6 welsummer pullets laid first eggs today. The pullets are a few days past 16 weeks and been feed chick crumbles along with free range. I am pretty sure of the two laying as combs and waffles larger and red and other girls combs and wattles small and pink. From so many post of not laying til 5 & 6 mos old I am in egg laying shock.

That is so totally awesome!!! My EE gave me a first egg today too. I squealed when I saw it lol. Congrats!!!!

Love seeing all the pics of these beautiful birds. Would someone like to share pics of the eggs? I'm planning to add a few Welsummers to my flock. I'm sure I'll have to start w/ chicks so I'm going to have to find a hatchery w/ them. Hopefully they won't be too poor quality. I love the looks of the Wellies and the egg color. Buying from a breeder locally would be ideal but no such luck yet. I'm near Augusta, GA.

If you wait until early Spring breeders will be shipping chicks again once you find a breeder you like to pre-order from. Hatchery is okay if eggs is all you want but if you're like me, you want a good-looking bird too. I wait sometimes 6 or 7 months before a breeder can ship me an order but the wait has been worth it to me because I enjoy looking at my nice birds as well as collecting their eggs.
