The Welsummer Thread!!!!

The Wellies are out for their 7th day and doing wonderfully. They love it! My dog Lillie has been GREAT with them.

Sounds very nice to see the birds pecking around while the little dog either just watches or does her own thing
. My young German Shepherd still can not resist chasing anything that runs. Maybe because I let her chase lizards and song birds when we are out walking she can not see the difference but I wil continue to works for a change.

I just got 3 chicks on Wednesday that I thought were Speckled Sussex but the hatchery said they could be speckled sussex, welsummers or russian orloffs. What do you think?

I would say that all 3 of those chicks are Speckled Sussex. I used to have both Welsummers and Speckled Sussex, and those look like little speckleds to me! Where did you get them from?

Nate

I love the close up pics of the chicks! Just goreous! May I ask what kind of camera were you using?

It does not look like my Wellie chicks so I don't they are Orloffs either. Speckled sussex may be the breed.

They are growing like weeds! They are getting their wing feathers in but body still in baby fuzz. Three weeks old now?

I have not paid much attention to the difference in sizes but three looks smaller than their cousins. Two I know that have more of a curved beak, smaller in structure than the others. I will have to take some pictures of them when I do have a breather, should have done it this morning but don't want the neighbors watching me doing my chores with my nightgown!

Thanks Nate you are a real peach! I love those bitties and for what it is worth, it is so worth it. What's lucky on my end is the traveling time to ship those chicks to me.

It will be soon you will incubate your own chicks....I can NOT wait for you to get our friend's Holland imported roosters. This is going to be exciting!

Yes, I know. With me being the only one getting all of his Imported roosters(1 from 2007 and 1 from 2010), the breeding program is going to be amazing... Im probabally going to be having 4-5 breeding pens of welsummers next year, at least 3 anyways.

Did you get the pics of the rooster I emailed you last night? What do you think?

Nate
