Its too close to be a Welsummer than an EE. EE usually have pea combs or some weird combs, not the single comb that the pullet displays and the color is too similar to a Welsummer. The only thing is if she lays white eggs, then she would be a Brown Leghorn. However, her type, colorings and conformation tells me she is a Welsummer.

I had Wheaton or Wheaton blended EEs and they do not look like that, look closely at the feathering patterns, salmon breast colorings.

I would say welsummer.. EE usually have dark or slate legs... That looks like a welsummer pullet to me. And the pea comb is dominant, so I would guess welsummer... Time will tell.

Good luck with your hatching egg search. Right now may be a hard time to get eggs shipped due to the heat. My suggestion is to locate the eggs you want to purchase and set up shipping for sometime later in Sept. Unless of course you are able to find someone close to you, right now it is just pretty much too hot to be shipping anything.

Yes you are right I was thinking feb. but maybe fall would be better. It gets real cold here.
I cant wait thanks lisa

I DID NOT know there were Wellsummer Bantams!!!! I want some!!! Where to get them? Perhaps not this year but next spring. I have two Wellsummers I got in May so they should lay in Oct / Nov I reckon. I had a hard time remembering their name so I call them my SummerFelkers. I found them to be the most aggressive birds I have ever had. They beak on everybodies heads. That is originally why I came on here to read about them and here I find all these glowing reports of how sweet they are. I have never had a more cranky bird. In fact when all the babies were little I isolated them at about 2-3 weeks because they were so naughty. I put them in the greenhouse with a light, on the other side of a barrier from a Mille Fleur mama and her hatchlings. The Summers got in with her and she beaked the scalp right off of the littlest one. Poor thing looked so pathetic. I thought I would lose her but I sprayed Schreiner's Liniment on her head and she has now healed up right down to nearly all her feathers. Long story short, huh? Anyway, I have thought about leaving Wellsummers in the greenhouse all winter by themselves if they can't be nice. I'm just surprised and so now I will watch to see if they come around.

Yes there ARE Welsummer Bantams! Two different origins and two different bloodlines going on as far as we speak of. German and Holland/Netherland lines.

With your Wellies, Linda, I would do away with those mean ones and never ever let them reproduce. Let alone egg layers but if they like to peck, they will continue on with their lives. As long you do not have narrow quarters, confinements with so many birds in a given space, they should have been just fine. Others are just too mean.

I had a chick like that from Day one to two weeks old, just so bloodthirsty as they go! I put him down right then and there. Peace among the flock once more!

I will consider doing something with these two crabby ladies. I don't think they were crowded. No one else ended up being of bad temper. Or beaky disposition.

How do I find someone with Wellsummer bantam eggs? I have been daily on eBay looking at and buying eggs.

Anybody here have eggs they sell? I'd love some right now but I don't want anymore babies (other than what is in the incubator) right now. I like having babies when the weather is nice. I wouldn't mind if I had a nice big barn or something, but then, power outages could wreak havoc too. And we usually have our share of those.

But any leads I can file away for next spring would be wonderful.

Linda, I think I might have to agree with you! I only have 2 Welsummers, a hen and a rooster, and they seem to be aggressive. I just discovered that my Welsummer hen pecked the comb on my new (6 mth old) Barred Rock and she has a little bloody spot! I kept them separated until today, got Pebbles, newbie, Friday afternoon. She runs from Henny, 1 yr old Welsummer, if they cross each others path. Will this stop? Will Henny eventually accept Pebbles?

Hello Froggy,

Considering that chickens just do have pecking orders, I guess it could mellow out, but this might just be the way of it. Are you only able to have the 2 hens. I have 8 hens and one rooster. I have introduced one or two to the flock and if there are more hens they seem to blend in better. I think you could easily accommodate a few more hens without crowding. Your rooster will be infinitely happier and the hens will adapt and accept more ladies. It really makes for a much more laid back yard in my experience. And your girls won't end up with their backs being laid bare from too much barnyard romping. Wish I could give you my Wellies (or Summerfelkers) as I have nicknamed them cuz early on I couldn't remember their name. They might like it better with more of their own kind.
