The Welsummer Thread!!!!

thanks EweSheep.. I just love the orange legs.. all the hens but one has that dark orange the other is orange but lighter.. other than the speckled eggs the legs are my fav body part on these guys...

Merry Christmas, Wellie owners! I got my first egg this morning. I was taking my girls a treat for Christmas morn ( were there chickens at the first Christmas I wonder?) and there was a pretty brown egg...much darker than the ones I have been buying. Hard to tell on the scale, but I am sure happy with the colour of this first one!

Hello all. Looking around at different breeds. I see from pics that this breed can have a large comb. Do you think they would do OK in the winter here near Chicago?

greenriver, I am in eastern Canada, and expect them to do fine. As I understand it, frostbite occurs when there is too much moisture in the coop and it freezes on the combs, causing frostbite.

pinkchick, thank you; I am thrilled with it....what a fantastic Christmas present.
