The Welsummer Thread!!!!

BTW, this is the suspected daddy of the Welsummer eggs I just hatched. I hadn't segregated them as they weren't laying yet. Then I found 7 of their eggs under a broody. They went from not laying to laying full sized fertile eggs. Hmmm, wondering if they were just hiding their pullet eggs from me.
I think one of the chicks is pure, but based on coloring, I think the rest are his.

Are they laying eggs as dark as the ones I sent you!? I got a welsummer egg from my 1 year old hens yesterday, nice dark, and speckled. Plus my 1 pullet that is laying is also laying speckled eggs! :)

You can create olive eggers usingany dark egg laying breed - just that marans lay the DARKEST(suppose to anyways, not all do) eggs.

These are eggs from today. I took the photo of the eggs on a sheet of white paper. The only adjustment to the photo was to use the white paper as the neutral color (white card) so that the picture in the color was true. I wish more people would do this because it gives a more acurate representation of the actual color.
