The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Quote:
Mine went from lanky to bulky at around 7 months. I've been really pleased with how my Wellie roos get along, treat their girls and respect my space.

Well I should have knocked on wood when I made this post. The two roos got into a fight last night while I was in the barn. It was a fairly even match as they are both identical in size and height. Their coloring is identical too so I told them apart by counting the points on their combs. One has 5 points and the other had 6. Now they both have 5 points and both are missing patches of feathers here and there. Now I'll have to tell them apart by whether or not there is a gap between their 2nd and 3rd points.

On the good side, when I went into the Wellie pen to break up the fight they submitted to "the big roo" quickly and were done with it. It wasn't like the fights between the RIR or Marans roos where I end up getting bitten or spurred before I can get them separated.

My boys usually start to bulk up around 6-7 mos like Len said, all of a sudden you won't believe your eyes. My Wellies are not exactly loveable like my Marans but they certainly are not flightly or unfriendly. They have great personalities and dispositions.

Len~
I know how you feel about the point thing........the girls decided that my best Marans roo didn't need his first point so now telling him apart from one of his sons would be nearly impossible except for the numbered band. Good thing I did that. Naughty girls, being mean.

Yay I found the Wellie thread! Would you mind helping me ID these chicks?
I just hatched eggs for someone, and she had spendy eggs shipped to me, and it appears that Wellies came out of the Partridge Penesedenca eggs and vice versa... what do you all think?
these came out of eggs marked Welsummer (and Barnie on the right)

and these came out of eggs marked Partridge Penes---now that I see all your pics I can see the classic Wellie head markings on them, not so visible in these pics

I did not video the hatch, but only 2 of the 3 eggs marked Wellie made it to lockdown.
We did get one surprise mismarked egg in this shipment. They came from a well respected breeder and I don't want to say anything until I'm sure.

We need pictures where we can see their eyes to be able to give you an accurate differentiation from other Partridge birds. The one where you can see the eye in the second picture is not a Welsummer.

I can't see them clearly but going by the last photo......I would say those 3 look to be cockerals.

I got a dozen Wellie eggs in the mail today!! I tried to take a pic of the speckles on a few of them, but I tell ya, the photos don't do the color justice at all! They are MUCH darker in person!!

My three year old son just looked over my shoulder and said "those eggs have Ovaltine on them!" Which is as good as saying they are pure gold eggs. Boy are they gorgeous!!!!!!!!!! Who did you buy these from? Wow, they are SO lovely!!!!!!!!!
