My grandkids play house looks almost like the one shown earlier, and I told the grandkids that we would make their play house into a chicken house and they didn't like the idea. They get upset now when the chickens go up there and make a mess. I don't know why they don't like the idea (laugh).

i purchased 5 welsummer hens at 4 months old in Fall 2010. they did great so i looked for a roo in our area, no luck, so i purchased straight run chicks from hatchery they all did well and i had a great ratio so i picked out 2 roos and some hens for 2012 breeding flock. cant wait for the roos to grow up and show their colors. i do have a few extra roos if you are in western ky area.... also i started a future breeding flock of blue laced red wyandottes i sold all of my extras of these already. at least until they grow another month or so. they are great chickens and very hardy.

I would think that most here would recommend that if you plan on starting a breeding flock, it might be best to consider starting with non-hatchery stock. There are plenty of 'pure' breeders that sell both hatching eggs and chicks from nice Welsummer lines.

Has enyone gotten welsummers from Meyer hatchery? Looking for info on the quallity of the birds. Also are there any other breeders out there. I am looking for good quality stock to start my flock. Thanks

My personal belief is that the best hatchery Welsummers come from Estes Hatchery in Springfield MO.
