The Welsummer Thread!!!!

we have a couple girls that are still finishing up their molt but we are getting eggs, we just set on Monday 14 eggs from 3 girls in with our rooster and 13 eggs from 3 girls in with our cockeral to hatch NYD

My guys are pushin 6 months, 2 Wel not laying yet but the two Golden Lace Wyn one is laying 6 eggs in 7 days, I think its just her, only seen one in there so far. She was laying on the shelf under the perch which is fine but found a nesting box today. So still no deep brown chocolate freckled eggs. Big Roo is getting feistier than ever and getting seperated with his 4 girls soon, he's being good to his girls so far, though he is scaring my SB banty, poor thing.

Not into the genetics though the Welsumers are interesting birds, wouldn't mind trying for another more docile roo at some point...

Got a nice email from Laurie Adams. She moved to FL from SC and wanted to be included in the Breeder's section. And put a bit of story in the History section for her and I still have to wrap up the finishing touches on it. She also shared me some more information of Bjorn Netland's German birds and the hatchery stock that Bjorn had told me a while back that crossing with the hatchery stock was an utter FAIL and he no longer has them anymore. Talk about hit below the belt kind of thing when you think you can make more Wellies by using hatchery stock because it is cheaper but the quality is very questionable...like most of us have experienced.

I dont think anyone has pure Calicowoods stock anymore except for Opa.

Also probably around January after the holidays, I am going to purge the Breeder's List but not the Member's List. Some of the poeple are no longer breeding or didn't forward me the new email addy or anything like that to keep in contact with the breeders for chicks, etc.

If I have omitted you from the Breeders List and you are still breeding, please fire me an email complete with name, farm name, city, state and website link and what you have to offer.

I think the website needs a facelift LOL!

I had a trio of Meyer's Hatchery wellies last year and the 2 hens laid nice eggs I was really happy with them but decided to replace them with better stock since I am a breeder and wanted to offer the best stock possible.
The hatchery girls eggs were much darker then any other egg I seen in person before but these new breeder wellies eggs are 3 times darker

I have 36 females that are all of laying age, I have about 6 girls that are heavily molting so they are excused but the rest of them do not have an excuse as to why they are not laying. I haven't been able to deliver eating eggs to my customers in a couple months. Yesterday someone gave me one egg....I put it in with the carton with the other 2 eggs that I have been saving, one is from last week and the other is from the week before that.

They are lovely! Do you have them under lights? Mine hatched the first week of May and haven't started laying yet so I'm looking for tips to coax them.

No problem Pinky, you are still on the list! Some folks lost roos but will get back in the groove by spring once the roo is established in the flock and mating love is in the air LOL!
