what do you think of this roo? he is 13 weeks old and starting to crow very early in the morning.
does he appear to be coming along nicely or do you see some defects? is it too early to tell?
thanks
Yes they do. Sometimes chicks would get blue, green or in between colors and when they get older, they would turn brown. Just like our babies, they are blue eyed until they are a few weeks old, they would go green eyed.
How many folks on this list have broody Welsummer hens? I am up to five. Tonight I put a broody Welsummer on 15 guinea eggs. They have been under the guinea but she is not penned and the eggs are probably close to hatching. We had a huge rain storm tonight so I decided to keep eggs warm and dry and switch out the guinea for a Welsummer; outdoors for dry chicken shed.
I just had a Buff Orpington hatch out 12 guineas. I added three other chicks to her brood and she accepted them too, plus 3 extra guineas. She is proud mama. Hopefully the Welsummer does just as well.
WOW, 5 broody Welsummer and I thought they did not go broody!!!
My Wellies are laying yet, so I don't know. But it sounds like there are some lines that go broody and others that don't at all. There was talk about boodle Wellies a few pages back.
I need more Guineas, we are down to two. Too many ticks for just two to do a good job.
My broodies all came from eggs I got from Kim M. (pinkchick). It is my understanding that she has birds from a Barber line. That being said, I do believe that once an individual crosses birds intentionally selecting for specific traits then the strain becomes their own, so I'm not sure if it could honestly be said that it is the Barber or whoever's lines that are broody.
NC~ Yours have gone broody too???? Crazy girls! LOL!
I have 2 hens and one of them is thinking about it right now but she doesn't seem to serious. The next few days will tell the tale if she sees it through.
