That might be the reason why that Wellie cross roo popped up.

If the pair are FROM a legbar rooster with three Wellie hens and a partridge Penes hen, then your stock is definately NOT purebred. I would not call them Welsummers at all if that is the case.

If you still want to keep them, enjoy them for their dark eggers. It is possible they may lay a very dark brown eggs, may or may not have terra cotta tint to them.

Okay,I havent read every page of this thread. I' m working on it.
I do have a question.
I have RIR and Black australorp hens. I have the opportunity of a wellsummer Rooster.
Unless and untill i get some welliehens, he would be fathering mixed brerds.
my questions have to do with henetics, i guess.
Would his offspring likely produce as many eggs as their mothets? Or fewer, because wellies lay fewer?
Also, what about the egg color of the mixed breeds?
Anything else you can tell me about these mixes, Or about welsummer roos temperments would ne great Thanks!

Welcome! The mixes might lay somewhere inbetween the 2 breeds- just as a guess.

We have 1 Welsummer roo and he is pretty mellow, he does a good job of looking after his girls, he isn't really the cuddly type by any means but he is a good looking guy! We have hatched out ones that are just pains in the butts and have culled them. We like them for their size and color of egg. We have eggs with different amounts and sizes of speckling.

Well I put 2 Welsummer bantams in my local fair and the pullet I entered took reserve champion single comb clean leg. I will go saturday and take pictures of her for you all as well as the cockeral I put in the show.

maybe Id het some who lay 'wellsummer eggs like their gramma, and some that look like their moms.
I figured a breeder would know. If its a good rooster, I would like to breed wellies when i get some hens. But till then, i dont really want to bring down the production rate of my little flock.

Good luck, if you do end up getting the roo, be sure to quaratinee(sp) for at least 30 days to make sure everyone is healthy. We use bread and dried meal worms as treats so that might help win him over. He will act different in his environment than what he will in a new environment.

Each pullet/hen is different as far as their laying ability and how often they lay, some everyday, others every couple days.

This is not the pullet in the show, this is a picture of a hen I have now when she was younger. I will say though I was impressed, my fair has very nice birds in it. Some of the birds could go to nationals.
