The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Thanks guys for the great comments on my Wellies. I need to take more photos. I took a photo of the eggs today. This gives you an idea of what kind of eggs I am getting from my birds. They all have speckles but they are very tiny. Also, these eggs in photograph look lighter then the real deal. Not sure how to get the real color imaged

Oh, I just love my Wellie roo! I've only been a chicken mama for about nine months, and decided to get a Wellie roo based on what I'd seen on this thread! He is a sweetheart - friendly yet courageous, protects the hens but is kind to children and my tabby tom, and like any good man, adores his mama (me!). He actually does courting behaviour with me, dragging his wing and flying onto my shoulder! He's growing up to be a real monster, which I love, and follows me around like a puppy. What a great bird! I'm buying Wellie pullets in the Spring to add to my flock.

chickhik - yes, the eggs are as shinny as pictured. Ghost Rider we live in Kansas
Thanks guys!

Ok so you are a BIT OF A DRIVE THEN.......hehehe

Have you ever shipped eggs, I have a bator, but I can' fit a whole dozen maybe 9 if they are not huge double extra large eggs, I only have a Brinsea mini .....if not would you consider shipping eggs come spring? Kim

Also wondering how is your rooster, calm friendly flighty, aggressive? I have read that alot of Wellie and Marans roosters are mean, tho, H&R here in Wi. said her roo is pretty good I think.... so maybe not all are so protective.....

I had a couple folks ask me to post pictures of the Champion Continental Welsummer Pullet from last Saturday's Winter Brisk Show held in Chehalis, WA. Judge was Butch Gunderson. Currently the APA Vice-President too.

I hope these wind up showing her Type, Condition, and Color well enough. Especially the leg color as that's something I'm really working on. It's not bad but still needs improvement. Next year's crop should be even better. I also should've opened the cage door. Didn't think about it at the time as was hurried due to the Coop-Out announcement and such.

For anyone interested, I'll post some pictures of the Barnevelder Pullet - over on that thread - that took Reserve Continental. If I get time later and if anyone wants, I'll try to post a couple of pics too of the male I took and the hen I took that got 1st Place.

God Bless,

I wanted to get some more experienced thoughts on my Welsummer roo. He's 16 weeks old, and has crooked toes, but beyond that, how does he look? And do you all think the toe thing is genetic or perhaps caused by a bad incubator temp or some other external variable? Thank you for any feedback!
