I love my welsummers!!! My still haven't started laying, but they will soon ( they are about 5 1/2 months ) mine are very spoiled and like attention:p I hope they start laying soon

Tailfeathers and everyone else, thank you!!! He's a good roo but I can sure see the difference. He's from a hatchery, as are my others, and now that I'm starting to love this chicken business, I'm going with a breeder next chicken I buy!

I started out the exact same way... bought chicks from a hatchery, thought they looked beautiful, then started looking at breeder birds. Initially I still couldn't see the difference, but as I learned what I was looking for I knew I had to get better birds

If I were to wager, my guess is that most of us started that way. Some may recall many of my earliest posts where I talked about getting a dozen chicks each from four different hatcheries. Out of over 50 birds, I think I kept four initially. Stubs, gray spots in the legs, off color markings, lousy egg color - and that was just what I could see before I ever knew there was such a thing as "Type"!

Once I found my original breeder, I got rid of those remaining birds, and then got bit by the "Breeder & Show" bug. Now alas, I am probably a hopeless addict.

God Bless,

I have welsummer too.. 2 pullets: willy and sunny... But they have not lay any eggs yet and they are adult size... I guess mine are a little slow.. ;)
