The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I'm going to cross them with my LF standard Welsummers, I hope to darken the egg color as well as increase size. I'm researching the silver genetics, and it shouldn't be too hard to do, it will just take a three or four generations. First generation I'll get splits, then it gets a little more complicated lol

I was thinking about the silver barnevelders that Greenfire imported. Just what I need, another coop/project.

LOL It would take a few generations to get there and the color consisency to make it look GOOD! The egg shell color is a gamble but keep working on it, you'll get there!

Oh yeah those GF's Barnvelders and Spitzhaubens........jeez, I don't think I can handle that many birds LOL!

Thought I'd post some recent pictures of my Bantam Silver Duckwing Welsummers, they are coming along nicely. Ignore the serama hen in the last picture :)

very pretty looking birds!

we are currenly at 3 breeds- coop space is at a premium but that's okay as it makes us be very selective in who we keep!

We have 1 Welsummer rooster and 5 Welsummer hens- all currently laying. We have 3 hens with the rooster and had set eggs due to hatch Jan 19th but when we candled last night all the Welsummer eggs were clear

Guess we will be running another group.

How fast do Welsummer hens grow? Also, when do they start laying? Both of these I've looked at the "official" numbers, but would like to get real numbers from some experienced breeders.
